Curriculum Frameworks
Goal #1: Develop an articulated
K-12 life science curriculum framework.
- What is a curriculum framework?
A curriculum framework maps school
curricula onto state standards, in Washington's case, to the
Science Essential Learnings. What books, kits, field trips, and
other resources are used to teach each science standard at each
level are determined and mapped onto a table of the standards.
Any gaps become apparent and schools and districts can move to
fill in the holes in their curricula.
- What does a life science curriculum
framework that satisfies state and national standards look like?
In year one of our four-year grant,
we are working closely with the Seattle and Northshore School
Districts in Washington State to develop K-12 life science curriculum
frameworks.
We hope the two completed frameworks from these districts will:
- serve as models for other districts throughout
the state, and
- since they will be very different, suggest
the diversity of solutions to the framework problem
